Prop Weapon Policy

Props resembling real weapons of any kind are not permitted at ZotCon University events. This is both a ZotCon University policy as well as UCI policy. Anyone bringing a prop resembling a weapon may be removed from our event or have their prop confiscated.

We do allow some fictional weapons. If you want to bring a prop weapon to any ZotCon University event, you must receive clearance for said event. To obtain weapon clearance before our event, you must email us at studentcouncil@zotcon.org or zotanimeconatuci@gmail.com.

Within that email, include the subject line “Prop Weapon Clearance for [ZotCon University Event Name Here].” Please explain what your prop is, why you believe you should be allowed to bring your prop weapon, and include images of your prop. Also include your name that is connected to your ticket. If cleared, we will email you a Prop Weapon Clearance pass for you, which you must have readily available at all times. We will be checking everyone who brings a Prop Weapon for their Prop Weapon Clearance as well as cross reference our own list to prevent forgery.

If you want to submit a request for a Prop Weapon Clearance, your prop must follow these rules:

  • No metal props
  • Props must be able to be held by a single individual
  • Props must not require any external support
  • Props cannot be large enough to obstruct walkways or cause inconvenience for other attendees
  • Props cannot weigh more than 10 lbs. (Yes, we will weigh it if we believe it may exceed it)
  • Everyday items, such as umbrellas or walking canes are permitted and do not need a Prop Weapon Clearance pass. However, we will examine them if we feel the need to do so.

By attending ZotCon University events, attendees agree to abide by our guidelines. Failure to do so may result in removal from our event or even a possible lifetime ban. We want to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable experience at our events, so please make sure to follow all of our rules and regulations!

Cosplay Guidelines

  • All cosplays must abide by UCI Campus policies.
  • Cosplays should not be over revealing! We have minors attending people, keep your private parts hidden away!
  • Footwear is required at all times!
  • Any form of cosplay must allow for both you and other attendees to walk comfortable next to each other without the need for “squeezing” through. Cosplays should not block any walkways whatsoever
  • No cosplay can require external support, i.e wheels or extension poles, unless you have a disability which requires you to have one.
  • All props must be handheld and not require any external support
  • No cosplay can be a realistic depiction of US Law Enforcement, active US Military, First Responders, Emergency Medical Personnel, or any Government Officials. We have the right to examine any and all cosplay and remove those who we deem to be infringing this rule.
  • All weapon props are required to have a Prop Weapon Clearance. See our Prop Weapon Policy section for more details.
